Who are you?

Katherine Hudson Founder of The Arabian Tent Company

What does an average day look like for you?

Writing emails, talking on the phone, making constant lists, ticking things off other lists, driving around the country visiting people.

One top tip to consider when throwing a party?

Make your guests feel comfortable creating the right environment is really important to set the scene for a party, and people always have a better time when they're relaxed. Luckily the collection of interiors create an instant atmosphere that relaxes people and there's nothing like the sight of cushion on a sofa to help with the process too!

If you could get your name on any guest list what would it be?

I'm not really into guest lists as they create an elite of exclusivity the parties with the best atmosphere are inclusive.

If you were planning your wedding, which Arabian Tent would you choose for the reception?

I would relish the excuse to make a bespoke marquee specially for the occasion!

What does an average day look like for you?

We have lots of linings and soft furnishings here and as the British weather and outdoor lifestyle can be hard on them, there are often repairs needed! I make some of our cushions, seat covers, linings and drapes, alter things so they fit/work better, work with Katherine and the team on designing samples and finding nice fabrics to use, and occasionally make a frock for Katherine to wear to one of her fabulous events!

One top tip to consider when throwing a party?

Go all out with décor to create a great atmosphere and make the party really memorable. Then add cocktails and dressing up!

If you could get your name on any guest list what would it be?

I've always fancied the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert, USA.

If you were planning your wedding, which Arabian Tent would you choose for the reception?

I think a combination of William Morris for dining, and Bombay Boudoir for the party area. The Tree of Life walls for the William Morris lining are really beautiful and the furniture is great. Plus my Mum would love it!

What does an average day look like for you?

Early starts, driving vans all over the place. Erecting marquees in wonderful gardens and fields. Eating lunch.

One top tip to consider when throwing a party?

Don't throw one in your own house. Think of the mess! Always outside.

If you could get your name on any guest list what would it be?

Woodstock 1969.

If you were planning your wedding, which Arabian Tent would you choose for the reception?

It's not top on my list of things to do. But if I was throwing a party Bombay boudoir with disco ball, and a William Morris tent to drink Tea in the morning after.

Jennie Stogdon

Jennie

Operations Manager

What does an average day look like for you?

Pretty non-stop, answering questions from all our clients, going on site visits for both confirmed and potential jobs, organising crew, vehicles and contractors for jobs, looking after the overall welfare of all our staff, vehicles and buildings, managing our budgets and petty cash, plus putting the kettle on, keeping up with everyone's daily life and finding the tennis ball that Jonny has thrown somewhere 'easy to find' for Daisy.

One top tip to consider when throwing a party?

Relax and enjoy it. If you're not having fun organising it, chances are your stress will rub off on the party atmosphere.

If you could get your name on any guest list what would it be?

The Mascheranda Masked Ball at Venice Carnival.

If you were planning your wedding, which Arabian Tent would you choose for the reception?

Probably the Raj ceiling with cream walls and Dark Red drapes.

One top tip to consider when throwing a party?

Lighting, lighting, well stocked bar and lighting.

If you could get your name on any guest list what would it be?

Rolling Stones backstage party 1976

If you were planning your wedding, which Arabian Tent would you choose for the reception?

It would have to be our 'Raj' interior for the main area, with a side order of 'Moulin Rouge'for a comfy chill out space!

Marketing and Operations Assistant

What does an average day look like for you?

An average day doesn’t exist in this company, one day you could be doing market research, the next at a photo shoot and the next on site erecting a marquee, each day in the week varies tremendously.

One top tip to consider when throwing a party?

Invite the people you want there, don’t invite people just for the numbers.

If you could get your name on any guest list what would it be?

It would have to be Rock the Bells festival in America.

If you were planning your wedding, which Arabian Tent would you choose for the reception?

I would have to choose the Bombay Boudoir, beautiful by day and magical by night or the William Morris lining with its sophisticated traditional English feel. Both completely different but both amazing and would make for the perfect reception.

Jonny Cox

Jonny

Warehouse Manager

What does an average day look like for you?

Busy, preparing and loading jobs, maintaining stock, clearing up after people, managing the stock system, inputting jobs, technical site visits, ordering stock, throwing a tennis ball for Daisy the rat-dog and I might even have some lunch at some point.

One top tip to consider when throwing a party?

Invite party people, people make parties.

If you could get your name on any guest list what would it be?

The Skatalites Christmas Party.

If you were planning your wedding, which Arabian Tent would you choose for the reception?

The Arabian marquee or Bombay Boudoir lining, but ultimately whatever the lady wishes, which, as it turns out was the William Morris tent! So we had a mixture of both... I think they call it compromise...

Marquee crew team leader

What does an average day look like for you?

I have awesome days erecting Arabian Tents in many different locations, sizes and colours. Me and the team have the chance to interact with clients a lot, and share in their enthusiasm when seeing our beautiful tents getting ready. There's a lot to do when rigging one Arabian Tent, there are never two days the same.

One top tip to consider when throwing a party?

I would say my number one top tip to consider when throwing a party is to make sure you have enough space to accommodate the number of guests you would like to invite. (Sometimes it's tricky to imagine, so ask us for help!)

If you could get your name on any guest list what would it be?

Glastonbury Festival

If you were planning your wedding, which Arabian Tent would you choose for the reception?

I would like a really colourful reception party, all the styling of my wedding would have a psychedelic theme, so I would like a Purple Palace marquee for my ideal wedding reception.

Hannah

Prop Designer

What does an average day look like for you?

There is no average day; the more unusual and challenging the better. Each design project I embark upon involves lots of research, sketching, and on complex ideas I often make a rough scale model. I enjoy working on props and décor that involve lighting as they require creative solutions and get to perform in their own right.

One top tip to consider when throwing a party?

A warm welcome and good lighting.

If you could get your name on any guest list what would it be?

Elizabeth Taylor's 40th birthday party in Budapest

If you were planning your wedding, which Arabian Tent would you choose for the reception?

Bombay Boudoir please!

Daisy

Daisymoo

Top Dog

What does an average day look like for you?

Going for a run with Mummy (even when it's raining and I'd rather be back in bed). Chipping about the office and warehouse and chasing the ball that Uncle Jonny throws for me (or getting Mummy to find it when he's thrown it on top of the container by accident). Having a nice afternoon snooze on my bed in the office next to Mummy's desk and defending the office (and warehouse) whenever anyone comes to visit.

One top tip to consider when throwing a party?

If it gets too much, sneak off to the bedroom, get under the duvet and hide.

If you could get your name on any guest list what would it be?

The after party for 'One man and his dog'. I'd show them a thing or two!

If you were planning your wedding, which Arabian Tent would you choose for the reception?

I prefer the shiny lining so probably the Bombay. I also like the black Munj is as they don't show up the hair when I fall asleep on them.
